the answer.. to when we are a separate 'species' [22 Jul 2007|05:31pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Thanks to nylan I have gotten into the Enders Game books.. I read one called enders shadow.. about one of the main chars of the first book enders game.. called 'bean'..

Now.. in the book bean is no longer considered 'human', now he is humanoid.. he walks, talks, feels emotions, eats.. sleeps.. drinks.. actually he does everything a human does.. except for one thing.. well two..

1. he is small.. at 4.. pple thought he was 1 or 2.. but he will only live to be in his 20's and will be a giant then.. because though he starts small.. where we stop growing at a point.. bean will never stop growing

2. smart.. so smart.. smarter then any human anywhere..

all this was done by gene manipulation.

Now.. in our own history.. we have neanderthals and and cromagnums.. i watch a lot of history and sci and national geographic shows.. *gotta love cable*.. and every show i have seen mentioning the two.. it calls them 'different species'.. they are humanoid.. but not the same as one another.. some scientists even go so far as to say that they did not 'reproduce' from one another.. because they were different species.. any offspring brought from the union of one of each.. would be 'sterile' and/or deformed, mentally or physically..

the cromagnums won out, neanderthals died.. and we came to be through natural evolution.

according to the book about bean.. because his genes were manipulated.. he was from an egg of a woman that had been frozen.. and well science being science someone broke the rules and performed experiment.. he was brought to life.

and.. he was not considered human like us.. but anothre species..

That just made me think

where do we become another species even though we look/act/behave like normal other then a few differences.. I mean.. dwarfs.. their genes are different... but not.. does that mean they are another species? yet they can mate with people who are not dwarfs and have children.. that go on to have children..

or.. those who are ill.. cancer and such.. have radiation treatment.. and such.. that manipulates genes and such.. do they suddenly become something different?

Or.. like.. those babies who start life outside of the womb.. test tube babies.. are they a different species?

Bah.. I am not even sure I am wording it rght.

Questions before work.. [27 Sep 2005|10:20am]

[ mood | distressed ]

Wierd question/s here I know.. but blah

WHAT is a soul? Seriously..

I mean... WHAT IS IT?

Also.. is it related/same as.. the 'spirit' of a person? Are we like God, The son, and the holy ghost

only.. T he body, the soul, the spirit?

IF we are just... electocal impulses.. then again.. wheres the soul come in and what happens to it when you die?

what is it that makes us uniquely US?

to much, eh?

I am off to shower and dress for work, be back tonight.

Saw this in another community I'm in....
Transport Provided to Anywhere - Room Desperately Needed! (For the Animal Victims of Katrina)

There is transportation provided, with people ready and waiting, for upwards of 200 dogs and 150 cats so far rescued from the devastation of hurricane Katrina. What these animals need is a place to go. Kennels, boarding, vets offices, shelters with any extra space, foster homes and rescues. Even one or two open kennels would greatly help.

From what we know, all animals have been vaccinated and are in good health considering the conditions. There are dogs and cats of every breed and size. Some are in groups of two, three or four, hailing from the same family, while some are solitary. ANY KENNEL SPACE AVAILABLE CAN CERTAINLY BE USED. These drivers are willing to move these animals ANYWHERE they need to go. Absolutely anywhere.

The current safe houses for these animals are being inundated and some of these pets will have to be euthanized if they are not moved to make room for the incoming animals.

Please feel free to pass on this information everywhere. Every forum, every list, every community.

If you know anyone, anywhere, that is willing to take in even one cat or dog, please have them contact Lynda at the information provided below.

They are also asking for ANY kind of donations for the animals - money, food, bedding, water, etc.

Please Contact Lynda V. at: 203 515 3024 (cell)
Home: 203 227 5308

Please contact at any time, day or night. These volunteers, rescuers and shelter workers are working around the clock.

searching for definition [20 Jun 2005|04:09pm]

I know what makes a gender a gender.. (we all know the physical aspects there).

What of the 'qualities' of a woman and man..

Beyond physical stuff

What makes a man.. a man

What makes a woman a woman?

If we say softness and nurturing are womanly.. feminine.. then

what if a man is soft.. and nurturing?

any help here?
any answers?

a post from my journal [24 Mar 2005|11:28pm]

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this is ridiculous? What the hell is going on? If a horse is hurt at least they shoot it in the head and put it out of its misery. If they are going to let her die they should at least euthanize her, and get over with quick, not drag it out like this.

Friendships [22 Nov 2004|12:36pm]

[ mood | confused ]

Something that has always confused me a bit about friendships.  Why do some people seem so concerned with placing blame?  Who cares if you're mad at me or if I'm mad at you.  Who cares whose "fault" it is?  Unless you're wanting to feel justified in ceasing to be someone's friend, you either work to remedy the situation or risk losing the friendship.  Even if it's the other person's fault.  Friendships aren't about placing blame.  No one is ever truly blameless.  If there's a problem within the friendship you either try to fix it, or you don't.  If you value the friendship enough to put up with the hardship, you try to fix it.  If you don't think the friendship is worth the hardship, you risk the friendship to try to get your friend to change.  Usually there's some middle ground (yay compromise), but yeah.  In the end, does it really matter whose "fault" it was?

search of... something.. normal [14 Jun 2004|12:35pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

I dunno.

Does it matter?

Most likely no.

Everyone keeps telling me to 'get on a normal' schedule.. and sometimes I do.. but rarely for long.

Everyone keeps saying, sleep at night.. be awake during the morning and day..

But the truth is.. I think sleeping the mornings, and being awake afternoons, night.. is my normality.

Even as a child, I never was able to keep the 'normal' schedule.. I remember being in gradeschool, I would have two alarm clocks, one next to my bed, but far enough to where I had to stretch to get it.. and the other that would go off 5 min later across the room where I HAD to actually get up to turn it off.

Tis the only way I could do it.

I remember getting up every morning at 5:55 in order to be out of the house before 7 to get to school, later, to catch a bus.

And I remember doing this on only a few hours of sleep.. going to bed at 10:30 or 11, closing my eyes, and trying to relax and sleep.. looking at the clock and noticing the hours pass by till bout 4 I would drop off to sleep..

I would do this nightly, then on friday I would stay up till 3 or 4, crash till noon and catchup on lost sleep.

I have been this way in like.. FOREVER.

Later when I moved in with Roy, he had a schedule, he worked at Dunbar then.. from like 2 am till noon, four days a week.. sooooooooo I would be awake till 4ish or 5, then fall asleep, he came home round 1, as it was a far drive, i would wake, make him something to eat, spend a few hours then he would go to bed, and sleep his schedule and id do my thing.

Then later he worked for Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.. and he would have to be at work 10 hour shifts and come HOME at 4:30 am! which worked perfect as we suddenly got on near enough the same schedule!

Being awake at night makes me feel safe.

9 times out of 10, the bad things for me happened at night.. I remember a few times dozing off at night around 2 am, and being woke up at 3 or 4.. when the grownups figured all kids were asleep.. and wham, yelling, screaming, hitting.. throwing things.. sometimes one of them woudl enter my room.. I learned quickly.. to leave when I first heard the disturbance.. I got quite good at sneaking out of the house, even NOW, out of pure instinct, when I lay down, my mind always goes over escape routs.. even now, I dispise sleeping in total darkness.. I have a hall light on.. and my door cracked (i hate everything being shut.. if a window is not open, a dorr needs to be UNLESS someone else is sleeping in the room, then im ok).. if for some odd and horrid reason my door must be shut.. I will not be able to sleep at night unless a light is ON, that is a must.. even if its one candle.

Johan is here.. and every now and then.. he says:

"Sheesh woman, why can't you be on a normal schedule?"

I think.. for me..

I am
